Methods in Geosciences

Quantitative and statistical analyses are becoming more and more important in Earth Sciences. This course will give students a deeper understanding of fundamental geochemical systems and geochronological methods and provide the statistical and analytical tools to study them. The students will learn how to approach a given research question through fieldwork, sampling and/or measurement strategies. Project work will include field excursions and the possibility for the students to actively employ specific laboratory measurement techniques. Throughout the course the students will learn how to use computer-based analysis and presentation tools, including basic programming.

General information

This is an elective course at advanced level, suitable for inclusion in a MSc. degree in geology. The course is taught during the second half of the spring term.
